Vivian had outgrown her Strider bike, and Hazel was outgrowing her tiny 12'' pedal bike from the previous summer, and Grammy treated the girls to brand new pedal bikes with real hand brakes. They are Stampede Sprinters, and the girls sure did sprint when we first got them! 

We didn't expect the girls to be able to go so much faster than before, and we didn't have any rules in place when we took them to the Greenbelt for the first time about waiting for us to catch up.  They raced ahead, and Vivian ended up zooming down a hill too fast, hitting a rock, and flipping over her handlebars.  We didn't actually see it happen, but we heard about it.  She has been much more cautious about hills since that incident, and thankfully she wasn't seriously hurt.
