Highway 130 in Springtime -- May 28

WYDOT makes it a goal every year to clear WY 130, which goes over the mountains, by Memorial Day.  Until then, it is closed to cars 11 miles past Centennial.  We decided to check it out, and the mountains are just beautiful.  We finally have spring, but we set out to find winter again!  It was about 35 degrees at the Medicine Bow Peak parking lot, and something like a 20 mph wind with stronger gusts.  Mostly we stayed in the car, though --there isn't really anywhere to walk right now anyhow.  There were folks out with skis and snowshoes and snowmobiles.

I attempted to use the panorama feature on the camera, and then forgot to turn it off.  The result felt sort of like photo booth pictures.

A nice man from Iowa offered to take our picture, which was very nice.  Hazel kept saying that the wind was miserable (which it kind of was).  But it was pretty neat anyhow, especially since we knew we were going back home shortly.  The temperature difference was a little more than 20 degrees!

Washington Park -- May 26

Hazel and Vivian rode their bicycles to Washington Park, about 1.25 miles from home.  When we got there, groups of 5th graders were running around the park doing a selfie scavenger hunt, and taking pictures with all kinds of things (someone with a dog, the swings, a picnic table, and so on).  Instead of playing, the girls mostly watched those kids running around!  They did enjoy a snack, though.  And Jane smiled at us from the stroller. The weather started to get chilly, and we headed home for lunch.  On the way back, Hazel fell and skinned up her knee a little bit, so we stopped by Beitel Elementary, and Grandad graciously gave her a band-aid!

Bedtime -- May 21

Jane was in the picture, and then she cried.  So, two happy girls instead :).

Cleaning out the Car (Baby in the Grass) -- May 21

Sweetest picture ever.  Baby Jane crawled around the yard this afternoon while I cleaned out the car, Hazel rode her bike up and down the block (it feels like a long ways down to the corner when you watch her go off by herself!), and Andrew pulled dandelions.  Vivian, the napping champion, was sleeping.  Jane and Hazel don't really nap, which works out better for the four year old than the eight month old.  Jane is pretty much always pleasant, however, and always adorable:

She tried to eat pretty much everything, rocks, dirt, grass, bits of perennials from last year that didn't make it... but she had a good time out in the yard.

We've also been planting some new things in our little flower beds:

Fishing with Grandad -- May 21

Grandad agreed to go out to the Greenbelt and go for a walk with the girls on their bicylces, and then maybe go fishing.  But the Greenbelt was closed because of seasonal flooding.  All that rain and snow had to go somewhere!  So we went to Huck Finn Pond, at LaPrele Park, and tried to catch a fish.  It was a beautiful morning, and the girls had a great time, but we'll have to try again for a fish.

Hazel Types -- May 8

Hazel spent some time on the computer typing a letter to her friends Hanna and Anastasia.  She was inviting them over, to play in the backyard.  In the middle of all of the random letters and numbers, there were a few words, some of them were not likely intentional, like "rumor," but "Hazel" was among them.  I'm guessing she did that one on purpose!

We Have a Crawler -- April 30

We put the gate up at the top of the stairs.  Baby Jane is crawling now!

Baby and Her Dog -- April 30

School and Bedtime with a Book -- April 25

A quiet morning, waiting for the window installers to show up. Hazel was playing school-- the orange pool noodle is her attentive pupil -- and was reading aloud bits and pieces of the New Testament, mixed in with other stories.

Vivian was playing bedtime (in Hazel's bed).  She was reading herself Click, Clack, Moo.
