Vivi walking -- August 21

I know this is a bit out of order, but I only just got this one to work.  Vivian is quite the expert walker now, but this was when she had just started to really walk to get around.  She was also practicing throwing a ball.

Wood Cutting -- September 6

We went to the mountains to cut wood with Nana and Grandad for the winter.  We now have our own fireplace, and we are looking forward to a real fire when it gets cold.  Nana and I played with the little girls while Andrew and Grandad ran the chainsaws.  We had fun playing in the dirt, going for a little walk, putting rocks in buckets, blowing bubbles, drawing, and snacking.

It's still a little strange to have Vivi running off after Hazel out in the world!

Little Girls Reading -- September 3

We make at least one trip to the library each week, and get something for everyone.  Our favorites from this week are Yes, Let's , Everywhere Babies, and Tiny Rabbit's Big Wish.  Vivian is starting to bring books to us to read to her, and Hazel still reads every day.  This is before we brushed hair.

Making Pancakes -- September 3

Basketball with Daddy -- September 3

Grandad and Little Girls -- August 31

Hiking -- September 1

We picked a new trail out of the book that Abbi sent Andrew for his birthday to explore on Labor Day.

We went the wrong way, but we had a good time anyway.  Hazel learned what moss is, and  we saw some bugs.  Hazel walked a really long way, and rode in the backpack only long enough to eat a snack.

Moving the Coop -- August 31

We decided to move the chicken coop.  Which is why we moved the garden.  You will notice that there is no chicken coop in this picture:

Now it's on the other side of the yard:

We moved the garden, and put the coop where the garden was.  The garden beds are now in a different shape, making a corner in the corner.

We moved it across the yard, and the moving process was fairly straightforward.

We decided to move the coop largely because we have a plan for a chicken tunnel though the hedge.  The space between the bushes and the back fence will give the chickens more room to run around and do happy chicken things, and it is not ever going to be used for anything else anyway.  They tried out the new chicken run while we were moving the coop.

On a related note--- we keep getting more eggs! The first week we had eggs, there were 6 total.  The second week, we had 12.  The third week we had 23.  They are still pretty small, one commercial egg is not quite twice as big as one of ours.

Harvest -- August 30

We had a project that necessitated harvesting our meager little garden, and this was what we ended up with  in the end.  We did pretty well, considering how little effort was expended after the initial setting up of the garden beds, and we have plans to make it more exciting next year.

Dressing Up -- August 26

Vivi likes to wear necklaces, and figured out how to get this (giant) headband on her head all by herself.  Also, she is getting better at scooting down the stairs, and we may not be keeping that gate shut for much longer.
