Hazel wears her sunglasses now, although they're still a little tiny big too big. She doesn't like the sun in her eyes now, so she tries to keep them on in the car.

First Swing -- March 10
We were at the park again the other day, and it was quite warm. We've started trying to eat supper right when Andrew gets home so that we can get outside and do something before the girls have to be getting ready for bed. Daylight savings time made this possible, of course. I thought to put Vivi in the swing, and she loved it! She was super happy to swing alongside Hazel, and Hazel got a kick out of having a swinging buddy.
Windy Day -- March 9
We went up to Vedauwoo for a walk and a picnic. It was super sunny, and the day before had been absolutely perfect. We got to the parking lot (which was fairly full of other people's cars) and realized that it wasn't quite as nice. The wind was something like 50 MPH, and there were gusts stronger than that. As Andrew put it, the wind was so strong it was hard to think.
We thought that maybe if we got down in the trees, instead of being out in the open, it would be alright. It got better, but not that much better. We ended up eating lunch in a Gazebo, behind a big rock that blocked some of the wind. It was quite the afternoon. We tried to laugh about it, and everyone was very ready to be in the car by the time we got back. We clearly weren't the only ones with the same idea--it was pretty busy, and we weren't even the only people with a baby. People around here are ready for spring, and you almost think it's here just in time for the temperature drop again.
Worms! -- March 7
Hazel helped to get our worm house ready before the worms arrived in the mail. Playing in the dirt in the kitchen is always a toddler approved activity!
A Thursday Morning -- March 6
Hazel spends a lot of time making stacks with blocks or elephants every day, and now she can get the blocks stacked all on her own (without anyone telling her which one goes next). It takes some trial and error, but she is patient with it.
Vivian spends a lot of time sitting and smiling each day. This happened to be the day after Ash Wedesday (you can see the smudge left on Vivi's forehead). Hazel was very concerned at church that everyone was messy, and wanted to get clean. So, while everyone is being somber and quiet, and the pastor is going one at a time through folks in the line (So-and-so remember: you are dust, and to dust you shall return...) Hazel is busy saying "Vivi messy?! " over and over. I was foolish enough to point out that we were all messy, which did not, in the end, appease her. After that it was "Vivi messy?! Mama messy. All cleaned up? Vivi messy. Mama messy. Pastor messy. Wipe up? All clean?" and so on.
This is Hazel's expression just before knocking the tower down to start over again.
Undine Park -- March 3
We met Andrew at a park after work, taking advantage of the longer days. It was a good idea, but the playground was overrun with big kids playing some kind of tag game, so we went for a walk instead and Hazel enjoyed trying to find and chase a squirrel.
Helpful Hazel -- March 3
One of the jobs Hazel is big enough to help with now is unloading the dishwasher. She stands on the counter, and puts all of the glasses, plates, and bowls back in the cupboard.
